Attention Europe, Vilija sings for Lithuania

Attention Europe, Vilija sings for Lithuania

Attention Europe, Vilija sings for Lithuania
The winner of the national selection in Lithuania.
Vilnius, Lithuania - It was quite a long Eurovision journey in Lithuania this season. But after 12 amazing TV shows, where 20 talented performers took part competing for the role of representative at 2014 Eurovision Song Contest and 16 potential entries were represented – the LRT’s Eurovision marathon has come to an end. Vilija is the winner of this year’s national selection.
The 12th and final episode of Eurovizijos dainų konkurso nacionalinė atranka, broadcast LIVE from Vilnius, brought even more excitement across the country than in the previous show. But not only because Lithuanians had to choose their representative for Europe’s Favourite TV Show this time. It was completely unclear until the very last second, who will win the contest and take that role, also because all the finalists had to perform the same song - Attention. One thing was certain: Mia, Vilija and Vaidas gave their best. However, in the end ‘a winner takes it all” and this time it was: Vilija Matačiūnaitė (who is also an author of the winning song).

Tonight, the jury panel was consisted of five members (two music professionals from Lithuania and three from abroad): Lisellot Bjork (Sweden), Brandon Stone (Germany), Valerij Prosvirov (Russia), Sigute Stonyte (Lithuania) and Lauras Lucinas (Lithuania).
According to the votes shared at the end of the show: Vilija recieved the greatest number of votes, both from the jury and audience. On the first scoreboard, you can see the final results after all the votes have been merged. (Televoting: Vilija 9.596 votes, Mia 7.506 and Vaidas 962).

About the show

Mia, Vaida and Vilija opened the Grand final with the performance of the winning song of 2013 Eurovision Song Contest - Emmelie’s Only Teardrops, however followed by few more live performances:
Mia Take A Look At Me Now
Vaidas Baumila Ordinary People
Vilija Matačiūnaitė I Was Here
Monika Linkyte (who ended fourth in the contest) joined them on the stage performing one of the competing songs from the previous shows - It's All About The Boy. Nevertheless, before the voting started, the finalists performed three versions of the song chosen last Sunday - Attention.
If you missed tonight's shows, you can still watch it here. However, if you just want to check some of the performances, visit LRT's YouTube channel.
Lietuvos nacionalinis radijas ir televizija (LRT) had a bit different approach for the national selection ("Eurovizijos" dainų konkurso nacionalinė atranka) this year. In the last three months we have enjoyed:
  • 12 TV shows aired in the primetime (20:00 CET) every Saturday!
  • 20 artists were competing for the role of being the Lithuanian representative at Eurovision Song Contest in Copenhagen.
  • 16 competing songs (also from international authors).
  • The final decision about the song was made in the show aired on 23rd of February. The name of the song is Attention, written by Vilija Matačiūnaitė and Viktoras Vaupšas
  • Lithuania will compete in the first half of the second Semi-final of Eurovision Song Contest (8 of May).
Music by Vilija Matačiūnaitė and Viktoras Vaupšas
Lyrics by Vilija Matačiūnaitė
ATTENTION
Did you think that you can get me, boy? (no)
Think again, babe.
Thought you could buy me for a drink or two,
But I’m not that easy
You saw me chattin’ with my girls at bar (true)
We’re all pretty
You told me I look like a movie star,
But I’m not naive
So… I’m gonna make you, make you fall,
down do-do-down down on your knees.
I’m gonna make you,
make you fall down to get all…
Attention, a little careThen you can have a love love love love, some loveAttention, a little care,And you can have lots of love
Do you dream abourt me in your bed?
Keep on dreamin’
You thought I’d give it to you – all I have (wait)
Not the first night
You said that it might be the love at first sight (babe)
Hold your horses
You told me you’re the best I’ll ever have,
But I just don’t believe
I’m not gonna ask you buy me diamonds,
no no no no,
Just behave yourself, treat me very well,
give me some:
Attention, a little care
Then you can have a love love love love, some love
Attention, a little care,
And you can have lots of love

Vilnius, Lithuania - The excitement in Lithuania, but also in the Eurovision fan community across Europe is getting quite intense. There’s only one show left, where the audience and jury will decide on representative for this year’s Eurovision Song Contest. Because tonight it was all about the Lithuanian song for Copenhagen.
The eleventh episode of the LRT’s Eurovision marathon that we have been following for almost three months now, was having a role of the semi-final. However, this time it was not about performers. Mia, Vilija and Vaidas are still among the Lithuanian hopefuls, as a decision about the representative for the 2014 Eurovision Song Contest is going to be made next Saturday.
Tonight, after enjoying all the performances and three competing songs, Lithuanian and international jury, as well as TV viewers, shared their votes and decided on the song that Lithuania will compete with in Denmark in May. After all the votes have been merged, the title of the song for this year's Eurovision was announced:
WINNING SONG: Attention

Like in previous editions of "Eurovizijos" dainų konkurso nacionalinė atranka, the eleventh show was taped few days earlier (18th of February), but it was broadcasted tonight, one day later as planned. "Due to sudden changes to the schedule, LRT has decided to postpone the broadcast from Saturday to Sunday at 20:00 CET", according to the explanation published on the LRT's official website, late last night.

This time it was "all about the song"

Nevertheless, in the previous ten shows, only the performances of contestants were evaluated during the broadcast, not the songs. Still, there was a public vote through LRT’s web-platform, where TV viewers and/or listeners could vote for their favourite tracks parallely, regardless to who is performing them in the show. But this time it was completely different. Not only that, the audience and jury did not share their opinion and votes about artists, tonight no one among the finalists was eliminated neither - only songs!

During the semi-final Mia, Vilija Matačiūnaitė and Vaidas Baumila had to perform all three competing songs in their own versions: Attention, Take A Look At Me Know, It's All About The Boy (chosen through LRT's web-platform earlier this week, based on votes of the audience and jury).
Among the members of LRT’s expert jury in tonight’s show were: Vytenis Pauliukaitis, Deividas Zvonkus, Ramūnas Zilnys and Edmundas Seilius. The international one was consisted of: Brandon Stone (Germany), Liselott Bjork (Sweden) and Valerij Prosirov (Russia).
Here you can see how the jury voted and how the audience.
The song which recieved the greatest number of votes tonight from the jury and TV viewers is Attention. This means, who ever wins in the final next Saturday, the song that will be performed in Copenhagen is already chosen! According to the votes from tonight's show, Vilija's performance of Attention got the biggest support, but at the moment, she is still just one of three Lithuanian hopefuls.
If you missed tonight's or previous shows, you can still watch them here. However, if you just want to check some of the performances, visit LRT's YouTube channel.

Vilnius, Lithuania - The Eurovision marathon in Lithuania is in its full swing once again. All issues about irregularities during the previous episode were clarified earlier this week and in tonight’s tenth edition we enjoyed eight great performances from Vilnius, before the audience and jury decided on three qualifiers for the next show.
This time there were no surprises. The Show #10 went out smoothly, including the voting part. Like in previous episodes of the national selection in Lithuania, after the eight potential Eurovision entries have been performed, two jury panels have shared their votes – Lithuanian and international. TV viewers also had a chance to support their favourites through televoting, however just the artists not songs. At the end of the show, LRT merged all the votes and announced the names of the finalists in the following order:

  • Mia 2.583 (12) / 23
  • Vaidas Baumila 1.446 (7) / 24
  • Vilija Matačiūnaitė 2.137 (10) / 14
In other words, Monika Linkytė ended fourth with 1.790 (8) / 19 votes (televoting + jury votes). In tonight’s tenth episode, Lithuanian panel that evaluated the performances of four finalists was consisted of: Vytenis Pauliukaitis, Sigutė Stonytė, Darius Užkuraitis and Ramūnas Zilnys. The international one is still having the same cast: Brandon Stone (Germany), Liselott Bjork (Sweden) and Valerij Prosirov (Russia).

Monika is being eliminated and 5 songs

During a two-hour show, eight competing songs were performed. As we heard all the entries in earlier shows already, a band on the stage that usually gives a support to all the contestants, has taken care of challenging assignment, transforming those songs into completely new anthems, quite well once again.

Their votes and votes of the jury are being combined and those entries, which are not getting enough of support, are being eliminated. However, this time five songs will have to be removed from the playing list for the next show, instead just two.

Vilnius, Lithuania - A moment when the final decision about Lithuanian representative at 2014 Eurovision Song Contest will be made - is getting closer! However, there are still three shows to go. In the ninth episode of LRT’s Eurovision marathon, four artists qualified for the next round. At first, the outcome was unclear and decision postponed. In the meantime it's all cleared out: Martynas Kavaliauskas is being eliminated.
After all perfomances the Lithuanian expert jury, international music professionals and viewers, evaluated what they have seen and heard on the stage and the results of the jury panels and televoting were announced at the end of the show as usual. Still, LRT decided to postpone the announcement about who is being eliminated among the five artists, because of the unbalanced outcome of the televoting that raised serious suspicions about manipulations during the voting.

Irregularities confirmed

According to results revealed during the show, Mia was the favourite among TV viewers (1.355 votes). On other hand, Monika Linkytė got the biggest support from the jury (33 points). Lithuanian national broadcaster wanted to be sure that there was no irregularities, but unfortunatelly there was. Martynas Kavaliauskas recieved 677 irregular votes more through televoting which means that Mia, Vilija, Vaidas and Monika are those who qualified for the next round.
The real outcome of televoting and the jury vote, in the last episode of LRT's Eurovision marathon was:

It’s time for the Lithuanian Eurovision season

It’s time for the Lithuanian Eurovision season

It’s time for the Lithuanian Eurovision season
Andrius Pojavis represented Lithuania in the 2013 Eurovision Song Contest.)
Vilniua, Lithuania - The first preparations for the Lithuanian national selection have already started. Yesterday, the broadcaster LRT officially announced the rules for the participation. The date for their national final is scheduled for the beginning of February.

There are some slight changes in the national selection this year. In comparison to the last year where only singer has been chosen, LRT has announced the competition for both the performer and the author of the entry in the 2014 Eurovision Song Contest. It means that the singer who will be chosen to represent his or her Baltic country in Copenhagen can perform somebody else’s song. The authors, who will send in their songs, should agree with the conditions that their lyrics will be offered to the winner who might be not the performer they wrote their song for.
The rules for the selection are currently available in Lithuanian here.
LRT is awaiting the applications from the authors and talented singers till the 15th of November. The first round of the national selection is set from the 21st of December till the 18th of January. The national final will take place in the beginning of the February.
Last year, Andrius Pojavis performed his song Something for Lithuania in Malmö. He came ninth in the First Semi-Final. In the Grand Final, Andrius came 22nd.
