Get to know Conchita Wurst

What are the highlights of your previous career?
Well I appeared in 2011 for the first time as Conchita on the austrian talent show "Die große Chance". In 2012 I participated in the Eurovision national finals, I came second. While working on music and my career as an entertainer I got the chance to meet fabulous people like Stefan Raab, Brendan O'Connor and Jean Paul Gaultier. in 2013 I appeared on German TV the first time, in a show called "Wild Girls" which was made in Africa. And then of course the biggest milestone so far is the Eurovision Song Contest this year. Because of that i still get the chance to meet my fans all over Europe.
What's special about your entry?
For me the most special and honoring thing is that Austria shows tolerance and acceptance and I’m so happy to be this statement. I’m allowed to be the voice of their beliefs during this time and this really makes me very proud. We, and not at least myself, want to stand for a society without hate and discrimination. And if I’m honest, I think everyone of the contestants should stand for the same, cause we are joining a very opend minded project, so they should be open minded too.
What do you want achieve with your entry?
For me as a musician it’s like the biggest thing so far. I really want to reach a good place in the ranking for my country, and for myself, I want to be proud of my performance. Cause I’m my worst critic. Besides that, I really hope that I get the chance to change some minds all around Europe. I want to show them that you can look whatever you want and that everybody must have the right to live their life however they want it, if nobody gets hurt.
Where do you get your inspiration?
From so many different people and situations around me. From my parents to my granny and my friends to cher :-) I’m a person focusing on the good things in life and that's the most inspiring thing.
What is your message for your fans?
Well, first of all I’m so thankful and privileged to live the life I do. And that’s because there are people out there who care of what I do. Thank you so much for that. And then, I really want to convince them to be the best version of themselves rather than a bad copy of someone else! You can do whatever you want if you’re not hurting anyone.
What is your personal relationship to Eurovision Song Contest?
I watched the Song Contest as far back as I can remember with my mom. I always wanted to be on this stage and now it’s my turn and I’m beyond happy and thankful for this opportunity.

The lyrics

Rise like a phoenix

Out of the ashes
Seeking rather than vengeance
Retribution
You were warned
Once I'm transformed
Once I’m reborn
You know I will rise like a phoenix
But you're my flame
Go about your business
Act as if you’re free
Noone could have witnessed
What you did to me
Cause you wouldn’t know me today
And you have got to see
To believe
From the fading light I fly
Rise like a phoenix
Out of the ashes
Seeking rather than vengeance
Retribution
You were warned
Once I'm transformed
Once I’m reborn
I rise up to the sky
You threw me down but
I'm gonna fly
And rise like a phoenix
Out of the ashes
Seeking rather than vengeance
Retribution
You were warned
Once I'm transformed
Once I’m reborn
You know I will rise like a phoenix
But you’re my flame

What's Teo up to these days in Belarus?

What's Teo up to these days in Belarus?

What's Teo up to these days in Belarus?
Teo, the Belarusian representative.
Minsk, Belarus - Teo, the Belarusian representative in the 2014 Eurovision Song Contest, has a very busy period behind and ahead of him. During the last weeks, the singer was overwhelmed with a lot of sweet pieces of cheesecake and many good and clever advices from Eurovision stars.

Meeting with Yulia Volkova

Teo met Yulia Volkova, a former member of the Russian girl band t.A.T.u., who took part in the 2003 Eurovision Song Contest reaching the 3rd place. Teo met Yulia in Minsk where she gave her solo concert. As Yulia has already gone through the Eurovision Song Contest, she shared her experience with Teo: "We came third, which was terrific, but it was already enough just to appear there on stage and see peoples’ eyes light up and smile. So much energy and passion," she said, smiling.

Charming her with a kiss and a bunch of roses, Yulia and Teo sat together watching his official video clip on a laptop. "It’s very stylish," she said, "and there’s a charismatic combination of Robert Miles and Ricky Martin in your performance. The song is very catchy." "I have always liked her music and was keen to meet her and seek her advice," Teo said afterwards.

Cheesecake party

On the same evening, Teo invited the fellow Belarusian singers from the national selection and local celebrities to officially launch his Eurovision entry song Cheesecake. The head chef at Victoria Casino, Alexander Zhilinsky, spent over fifty hours preparing and baking the two metre wide cheesecake, using over twelve kilograms of cookies, eight kilograms of butter, four litres of rum, six kilograms of sugar, twenty kilograms of mascarpone cheese and topped with 24 kilograms of fresh strawberries. He kept the recipe a secret, but it served over 320 people.

Dima Koldun's advice

A week later, in between dance rehearsals, vocal training and filming the postcard with the Danish crew , Teo met up with Dima Koldun, who represent Belarus in the 2007 Eurovision Song Contest. Dima’s advice was simple but important: to enjoy himself, to do his best and to "work your magic". Two singers sang together karaoke.

A concert with Dina Garipova on March 18th

Now Teo is in Moscow where Dina Garipova, last year’s Russian representative invited him to take part in her concert on March 18th. Dina Garipova, invited Teo to take part in her concert on 18th March. "We intend to sing a cover version of Rihanna’s Umbrella and I'm hoping that we can also squeeze in Cheesecake too," Teo said. "We met at last year’s festival Slavonic Bazaar and have been friends ever since."

After Moscow, Teo will be busy with his promotional events that will hopefully include Malta and Latvia. He also plans to came to Eurovision In Concert in Amsterdam. "My five hours’ sleep per night is reducing every day!", he said.

It is time to "Start A Fire" for Dilara Kazimova
Dilara Kazimova will represent Azerbaijan in Denmark.
Baku, Azerbaijan - Two weeks ago Dilara Kazimova got the trophy in the Azerbaijani national final Böyük Səhnə. Today, it is time to get to know her song. It is called Start A Fire and is composed by Stefan Örn, Johan Kronlund and Alessandra Günthardt. You can watch it on eurovision.tv!
Some months ago the participation in the 2014 Eurovision Song Contest felt so unreachable for Dilara Kazimova. Two weeks ago her dreams came true when she won Böyük Səhnə in Azerbaijan. And now, it's time to introduce her song Start A Fire.

About the song

In her ballad Start A Fire, Dilara perfectly shows her unique vocal style. The music and lyrics of her entry have been written by Stefan Örn, Alessandra Günthardt and Johan Kronlund. The song has been chosen internally by the Azerbaijani national jury.
The young, talented Dilara describes her entry song as "a confession of strong yet vulnerable women." "The song is not just about love, but also about kindness, humanity and respect for each other", Dilara said. "It’s also about being absolutely lonely in a world that can be so cruel."
Dilara wanted a very special song for the 2014 Eurovision Song Contets. "Start A Fire is the best choice for me", Dilara says. "The melody is kind of hypnotizing and the story is deep and touching. It’s a bit tragic but with hope. I’m very much into the song and want to make my audiences feel its deep meaning."

About the composers

Stefan Örn is the Swedish music composer, guitarist and sound-producer, the member of the band Apollo Drive. He was one of the composers of the songs which represented Azerbaijan at the Eurovision Song Contest in 2010 and 2011. The song Drip Drop, co-written with Sandra Bjurman and Anders Bagge perfomed by Safura came on fifth place. Running Scared perfomed by Ell/Nikki in Düsseldorf won the 2011 Eurovision Song Contest.
Alessa Noa is the alias of Stockholm-based artist and songwriter Alessandra Günthardt. Born in Zürich and raised in France and Sweden, Alessandra was early on drawn to different cultures and influences. Consequently, her music can be described as being very eclectic, drawing inspiration from a wide array of genres, although icons such as Kate Bush and David Bowie are often cited as her main influences. Apart from making a name for herself as an artist, Alessandra has built up a steady career in songwriting and recently co-wrote the 2013 Swedish Idol song Belong.
Johan Kronlund is a composer/producer and also an engineer. He has worked with such international pop and dance artists and bands as PLAY, Danny Saucedo, Montt mardié, Darin, September, Medina, Lucky Soul etc.
In our previous issues you can recollect the last shows of Böyük Səhnə and Dilara's long way to the victory.
