  • Brequette Cassie participated in the first edition of La Voz (The Voice) and, though born in South Africa, she has expressed her wish of singing at the Eurovision Song Contest representing Spain, the country where she's been living for the last 15 years. She's currently in the preparations of her debut album Puzzle Together.
  • Dama is short for Damaris (Abad), a singer born in Sevilla who is better known to the Spanish audience as the partner of top artist Melendi and sister of the popular new artist Rasel. While preparing her second album she's still waiting for her own breakthrough and aims to achieve it through the Eurovision Song Contest and the song Estrella Fugaz, written by none other than Melendi.
  • Ruth Lorenzo was heavily tipped to be the Spanish choice before the announcement of a public selection. Mostly unknown in Spain, she finished in the top 5 of the UK's X Factor in 2008 with Dannii Minogue as her mentor. She has just signed with a new record company aiming to reach not only the Spanish market but the international one too.
  • Jorge González first participated in the talent show Operacion Triunfo, then in the 2009 Spanish national final, with Si Yo Vengo A Enamorarte, and more recently in the first edition of La Voz (The Voice) where he was the runner-up. He considers himself a Eurovision fan and will try once again to achieve his dream of representing Spain in the Song Contest.
  • Raúl made his breakthrough after he came second in the 2000 Spanish national final with Sueño Su Boca, which became a big success that year and made him win a Spanish Music Award as Best New Artist. Since then he's had further hits and released six albums.
Both Brequette and Ruth Lorenzo have already reached the Top5 of the Spanish iTunes singles chart with Ruth peaking at #1.
Spain won the Eurovision Song Contest at London's Royal Albert Hall in 1968 followed by a home victory in 1969. Tonight's winner will participate in the Final in Copenhagen on the 10th of May to become the 54th Spanish entry.

Contrary to a number of reports, the date for this year's Israeli National Final has been set to the 5th of March and will be broadcast from Jerusalem at 20:00 CET.
It was previously announced that Mei Finegold would represent Israel at the 2014 Eurovision Song Contest and that the public were requested to send her their songs. These have now been whittle downed to just three, including an entry penned by Mei herself:

Nish'eret iti (Staying with me)
Music: Loren de Paz & Chen Metzger Eder

Same Heart

Three music videos recorded

For the last few weeks Mei has been working very hard preparing, incluidng recording music videos for each of the three songs, all of which will be broadcast across of all IBA's channels (TV, radio and internet) from the 27th of February until the evening of the National Final on the 5th of March. When asked about the filming, Mei said:
“I didn’t realise the fact that we shot three videoclips in one week. It was very challenging and interesting. Facing a project like this is more different than anything I knew, as decisions must be made right away and without a plan B, but this was very magical as well. The whole team gave its heart and soul to this project and the work was very professional and fun. Every location turned right away to a place of joy and laughter. The final results are being prepared right now in the editing rooms and I can’t wait to let the public hear the songs and watch the videoclips. I hope that everyone will be pleased, just like me.”
The video for Nish'eret iti was filmed at the Israeli Railway Museum in Haifa, inside an old train. Meanwhile the video for Same Heart was shot at the Hameginim Forest just outside Jerusalem and in an abandoned industrial complex. Be Proud was recorded at the Reading Power Station in Tel-Aviv.

Iceland held two semi-finals leading up to tonight's final show in which the winner will represent the island at the 2014 Eurovision Song Contest. Televoting picked two songs in each semi-final and an expert jury selected two wildcards. That means that there were six participants in the final Söngvakeppnin 2014 show from the Háskólabíó in Reykjavik.

The participants

The show hosts were Ragnhildur Steinunn Jónsdóttir & Guðrún Dís and this was the running order in tonight's final (winner in bold):

The results

There was a first round of voting where a combination of expert-jury voting and televoting (50/50) determined the top two: Pollapönk and Sigga Eyrún. These top two songs qualified for the second round of voting where televoting only determined the winner.
In the second round the two songs were performed in the language they wish to use if they make it to Copenhagen in May. Sigga performed in English while Pollapönk reprised Enga fordóma in Icelandic and English.
After the televoting results were calculated, last year's winning composers of Ég Á Lif came on stage to announce the winner: the band Pollapönk with the song Enga fordóma will represent Iceland.
